What does it mean to be a Google Partner Agency?

I remember back more than 10 years ago, sitting in a room at the Sydney Google headquarters in Pyrmont with only about a dozen other business owners while 2 staff from Google were talking to us about the new Partners program that they were about to launch. At this time it was called Google Engage before being renamed to Google Partners in September 2013 and boy has it grown since then.

The last masterclass event I attended in Sydney must have had over 1000 people in attendance, it was huge but still a great day out learning all about the new features heading to Google and the digital marketing space.

So what is the Google Partners program?

Well Google themselves say
“Google Partners is a marketing program for advertising agencies or third-parties that manage Google Ads accounts on behalf of other brands or businesses.”

We are proud of being one of Sydney’s and maybe Australia’s longest standing Google Partners. To get this and keep this badge, we need to keep our qualifications and knowledge of the Google Ads platform up to date and re-test our knowledge every 12-18 months depending on the qualification.

In 2017 and 2018, Google ran a Specialists Challenge to highlight agencies that really knew their stuff. To get this award, Digital Marketing Agencies throughout Australia had to take and pass every single Google exams (Pass the AdWords Fundamentals and all 5 AdWords exams) and I am proud to say both years that they ran this challenge, I completed it and was awarded this with a nice shiny trophy.

But what does this all mean to you?

One of the best things about being involved in the Google Partner program is that we get to work directly with Google and they’re a pretty cool bunch to work with. It is harder for an individual business to get the same access to resources that we can.

As a Google Partner, we must abide to Google’s Working with third-party policy and as part of that no partner agency is allowed to

  • Claim false affiliation with Google or pretend to be from Google
  • Guarantee the top placement on Google
  • Claim that ads will appear in Google Search at all times
  • Represent free Google products as pay-for-insertion products
  • Make false statements about how Google Ads costs are calculated
  • Offer unlimited clicks
